Oregon Coast Fishing Reports

Oregon Coast Fishing Report

Fishing on the Oregon Coast remains steady, with great opportunities across multiple species. Chinook and Coho Salmon are currently providing consistent action, especially as the fall season moves in. Whether you're casting in the bays or running lines upriver, the bite has been solid and rewarding. These popular species continue to draw both seasoned anglers and newcomers looking for productive outings.

Crabbing is also going strong along the coastal stretches, with Dungeness crabs in good numbers. The best time for crabbing typically runs from October through December, when crabs are at peak activity and most abundant in nearshore waters. Setting pots early and giving them a solid soak time continues to produce quality catches. It’s a great addition to any fishing day, especially for those who enjoy variety.

Steelhead fishing has been picking up in the rivers, offering a change of pace and scenery from the bays. Effective techniques this season include back trolling with plugs and drift fishing with beads, corkies, or bait such as eggs. These methods work well in the clear, cold flows of northwest Oregon’s river systems. Anglers targeting steelhead are seeing success in both smaller creeks and major river channels.

For those planning a trip, the prime time for salmon is August through mid-November, while crabbing shines in late fall. Tillamook Chinook Salmon Adventure: A Day on the River fishing report coverpicture

Hooked Chinook, Stunning Scenery: Unlock Tillamook's Salmon Fishing Gem

What a fantastic day on the water we had with Darren and their crew in Tillamook, Oregon! The weather was perfect—partly cloudy skies with a light breeze that made for a comfortable day out on the river. The water conditions were great, and we were excited to get the lines in and see what we could find. We started the day off trolling, using a mix of heavy and light tackle, and it wasn't long before we had our first Chinook Salmon on the line. Darren fought that fish hard, working the rod and keeping steady pressure until we were able to bring it into the boat. The salmon put up a great fight, jumping and peeling off line, but Darren kept their cool and landed a beautiful specimen. We continued to troll and drift fish, cycling through different techniques, and managed to hook into a few more Chinook over the course of the day. The fishing was consistent, and the company was great. We shared stories, talked tactics, and enjoyed being out on the water together. That's what makes these Tillamook salmon trips so special—the opportunity to not only chase big, hard-fighting fish but to do it alongside people who share the same passion. Whether we were landing a fish or just taking in the scenery, there was a great energy on the boat all day long.
