Oregon Coast Crab Fishing Adventure

Get ready to roll up your sleeves and dive into the world of Dungeness crab fishing along the stunning Oregon Coast. This hands-on, 4-hour trip with Fassiottos Guide Service is perfect for anyone looking to experience the thrill of hauling in your own catch. Whether you're a seasoned pro or a total newbie, our expert guides will show you the ropes and help you bring home the tastiest crustaceans the Pacific has to offer.

Trip Overview

Our crab fishing adventure kicks off bright and early at 6:00 AM, giving you prime time on the water when the crabs are most active. We'll spend four hours exploring the calm, inshore waters that are ideal for beginners and families alike. Don't worry about bringing any gear – we've got you covered with all the pots, bait, and equipment you'll need. This trip is designed for two guests, making it perfect for a fun outing with a friend or loved one. Just remember, crab fishing can get a bit messy, so wear clothes you don't mind getting a little dirty. Trust me, the reward of fresh crab is well worth it!

Crabbing 101

If you've never been crab fishing before, you're in for a treat. We'll start by showing you how to bait the pots – usually with fish carcasses or chicken that crabs can't resist. Then, we'll drop the pots overboard and let them soak while we cruise the coastline and take in the views. After about 20-30 minutes, it's time for the exciting part: hauling in the pots. You'll feel the weight and anticipation as each pot breaks the surface. We'll measure each crab carefully (only keepers allowed!) and show you how to handle them safely. By the end of the trip, you'll be a pro at sorting, measuring, and maybe even a little crab wrangling.

Why Crabbers Keep Coming Back

There's something addictive about the combination of strategy, patience, and sudden bursts of excitement that come with crab fishing. One minute you're enjoying the peaceful ocean scenery, and the next you're scrambling to contain a pot full of feisty Dungeness. It's a blast for all ages, and there's nothing quite like the satisfaction of bringing home dinner that you caught yourself. Plus, the Oregon Coast scenery is hard to beat – you might spot seals, sea lions, or even whales while you're out there.

Target Species

Dungeness Crab: These tasty crustaceans are the stars of our show. Known for their sweet, tender meat, Dungeness crabs can grow up to 10 inches across and weigh over 2 pounds. They're most abundant in the cooler months, which is why we run these trips from November through December. Dungeness crabs are crafty creatures, using their powerful claws to scavenge for food on the ocean floor. They're also quick movers when they want to be, so be ready for some action when the pot comes up! The legal size for keeping Dungeness is 5 3/4 inches across the back shell, and we'll teach you how to measure like a pro. There's a good reason these crabs are considered a delicacy – once you've tasted fresh-caught Dungeness, you'll be hooked.

What to Expect on the Water

Our trips take place in the relatively calm inshore waters, so you don't need to worry about rough seas. We'll be cruising in a sturdy, well-equipped boat that's perfect for crabbing. Expect to get a little wet and dirty – it's all part of the authentic crabbing experience. The Oregon Coast weather can be unpredictable, so dress in layers and bring a waterproof jacket. Don't forget your camera to capture the moment you haul in a pot full of keepers! And while we're out there, keep your eyes peeled for other marine life. It's not uncommon to see harbor seals popping their heads up or seabirds diving for fish.

Time to Book Your Spot

If you're looking for a unique way to experience the Oregon Coast, our crab fishing trips are hard to beat. It's a chance to learn a new skill, connect with the local marine environment, and potentially bring home some of the best seafood you'll ever taste. Remember, these trips are only available on weekends from November 1st to December 31st, and spots fill up fast. The $100 deposit is non-refundable, but trust me, once you're out on the water pulling up pots full of crab, you'll know it was worth every penny. So gather your fishing buddy, book your spot, and get ready for a crabbing adventure you'll be talking about for years to come. The Oregon Coast is calling – time to answer with crab pots in hand!
